Esperance-Fields of Gold- 10 265kms in the bank

Dearest Intrepid Reader,

We left Albany at 0800hrs. The MOTH and the Harley were out in front today. The GPS is now well managed and there is no more loud announcements. It is one of the benefits of a long ride, you get to know more about your ride. ( more on that later)

Fields of Gold

At our first stop about 180 kms down the road at Jerramungup, Jenny shared that she had really been enjoying the continuous golden fields of Canola, and so she had been singing, Stings song, in the privacy of her helmet, Fields of Gold. Our ever pragmatic, men, both, quickly advised us that that song was about fields of barley. Of course they were right.

However, Jenny and I don’t care, we were so joyous to be riding in “ Fields of Gold” today. I had my own wonderful moment in my helmet, when the dearly departed Eva Cassidy’s , cover version of Fields of Gold, which is on my triking playlist, came on when we had fields of gold on both sides of the road and also in the rear vision mirror. It really is magic out here.

I managed to fit the three syllable ca- nol-ah into the two syllable bar-ley, as I was singing along, with no trouble at all. There is no end of, poetic licence, within your own motorcycle helmet.

Bluster, Bluster but no Fluster Jerry can departure.

We have had lots of blustery wind today. Really from the moment we left Albany we have had significant blustery wind. John reported he, and the Trophy, had been pushed accross to the other side of the road a couple of times.

Jenny reported a sore right shoulder due to holding Rubilicious, straight.

Just out of Ravensthorpe a red flash appeared above the Harley. I quickly recognised it as our Jerry Can ( it was empty).

Due to the wind speed and bluster factor( bluster factor is now a real thing, you heard it, here, first) it was hard to anticipate the bounce and trajectory of the Jerry can, come, missile, hurtling towards us.

A slight gentle brake, then a burst of acceleration with a manoeuvre to the left meant, the Lovliness and I avoided the rogue Jerry can.

When the threat was gone, I turned on the comms and advised the MOTH , the Jerry can had left the ride, and maybe we should check the rest of the stuff on the draw bar.

He pulled over, unbelievably the cover and the ocker strap that was holding it in place were still in position. It appears the blustery wind has lifted the cover, in the corner and then sucked the Jerry can out.

We now have a new Jerry can and we will now have two ocker straps with one underneath the cover and thru the handle of the Jerry can.

We also had a quick stop at Munglinup Roadhouse, where the main discussion was the wind.

Speedo

I am ridiculously excited to report that today 29.6 kms out side of Ravensthorpe, at exactly 11.32hrs, on the Great Southern Highway, I clicked over the 10 000kms, on this one single ride.

Yes, five digits in that number.

I was not sure if the trip metre would keep counting. So I pulled over to record the moment.

Anyway, the MOTH said, just go a bit more and see what happens. To my sheer delight, she kept on counting our kilometres, she is not going to bow out at 9999.9 she is going to count every one. I love her.

When I got the Lovliness , I did not know if I was worthy of my own ride. The MOTH has unwavering belief in me, and the benefit of just, doing the kilometres. Today I felt I was very worthy of my own ride.

A great day. See what I mean, you get to know more about your ride.

This is the trip metre when we rode into Ravensthorpe, that’s how I knew exactly where the ten thousand km mark happened.

Esperance

We arrived about 2. It’s just a beautiful place. We are staying at the RAC Caravan Park, on the Esplanade. It’s a caravan park with the wow factor. We have a water view from our powered site. The Camp Kitchen and the separate Games Room are nothing short of palatial.

I actually feel guilty only paying $ 44.00 with our RACQ discount.

We went for a cruise along Castletown Keys and the Esplanade. The temperature is just perfect.

Lucky to come back to Albany we will pass back through Esperance. We also need to come back here.

IGA is the friend of the travelers, they have beautiful pre prepared meals that we have been enjoying on our big kilometre days.

Tonight we have our dinner for just $ 18.00. The MOTH was hungry. I believe our high carbohydrate choices are being driven by the cold, and I refuse to apologise for that.

Love that you are all there checking in on the blog.

Cheers!

When you ride out to find the way, the way will appear.

Until next time

MOTH and LOL
