Halls Creek- 4776km in the bank.
Dearest Intrepid Readers,
It was a beautiful morning, with the night quite warm and no covers needed.
We enjoyed the ride out from Lake Argyle to Kununurra, The Western Australian Golden Wattle is out in abundance along the road.
We enjoyed our best cup of coffee in about four days at a lovely cafe.
Just out of Kununurra we rode over the Diversion Dam with the water noticeably lower on one side of the bridge/dam than the other. A modern miracle for sure.
As we road today we had the ancient monuments of the Kimberley Ranges not only in front of us, but in our rear vision mirrors also. We were surrounded by high cliffs and bluffs. I was struck by the stark contrast in colour between the sky and the range. It was crisp and sharp.
The MOTH was taken by the colour of the Iron Stone cliffs.
It looks at times like they have been cut by something huge creating shelf like formations.
You feel like saying “ who put that rock there and how did they do it? “
We are all in awe of the Kimberley. We have only seen a small part of a huge wonder of the world, however we are grateful to have traversed even just briefly through this part of Australia.
The kilometres slipped by easily today and we rolled into Halls Creek around 1300hrs.
Old Halls Creek is the site of the first Payable gold find in WA in 1885. The town grew quickly as gold miners rushed to the area.
Jenny and I were a tad uneasy about our stop over in Halls Creek, due to recent civil unrest requiring police to be sent to the town from other locations.
We are staying in the Compound of the Kimberley Hotel tonight and we have had a beautiful meal.
Lots of road works today and a water crossing so lots of Kimberley Mud on the Trailer and the bikes.
We were very lucky to be given permission to use the fire hose to remove some of this before it becomes glued on.
Another early night. Nearly 600kms planned for tomorrow.
As you ride out to find the way.. the way will appear!
Until next time
MOTH and LOL
