Barkly Homestead- 2850kms in the bank.

Dearest Intrepid Readers,

We have had a question.

Why is the Lovliness, now towing the Krakatinnie?

It is purely a mathematical decision.

She has a 40 litre tank, and is able to do more kilometers than the Harley on its 22.8 litre tank. If the Harley is not towing it turns out the Moth gets a further 90kms down the road. Now, that we are out in the Northern Territory and the Petrol Bowsers are getting further apart and the octane level is dropping, its time for the girls to go to work.

What can I say. We are big in all the right places.

We packed up in the cold this morning and in the dark for some of the time.

I just put on all my riding clothes and the Moth put on his opshop special from our time in Tasmania and we got the job. done.

When we had our compulsory coffee after fueling up before leaving the Isa. I met up with two Public Health Nurses, who were getting a coffee after and early start in the Leichhardt River bed. Collecting blood tests from the homeless, as part of a Tuberculosis monitoring program. These two wonderful women are Paula and Noela. It turns out Noela and I have an old Nursing friend in common.

Its a small world indeed.

Here’s to all of the wonderful outback nurses, often working alone in dangerous conditions to assist and care for people who have no one else, to whom they can turn to in an hour of need.

I discovered the Lovliness has a smashed front left headlight. Some of the Glass remains in place and the LED light is still actually working. So the Workshop Foreman, who is travelling with us, who is actually one in the same as, the MOTH, fixed it with a rather large piece of cello tape.

I heard you all gasp in shock at the thought of this damage. However the Loveliness and I, knew there would be some road scars and this is but a small price to pay.

There was a great moment today as we crossed the border into the Northern Territory.

John Herger looked down at his speedo as we crossed the border to see the trip meter on his speedo on the Trophy reading 1954kms. This is pretty special as that is the year of his birth and we are doing this for his 70th Birthday. How cool is that ?

Its great to be in the next state, on an “All States” Ride. With Apologies of course to Tasmania, who we love and have been to twice before on the Trikes. We are grateful to be able to freely cross borders again, as we remember a time when this was not possible.

The “Comunity of the Road” has started to become evident. We have the young couple from Canberra who are looking up the Bureau of Statistics Data for each town they visit. He looks like Hugh Grant and she is young and sweet. We first talked to them in Julia Creek and then they claimed us at the Petrol station in Camooweal today. There was plenty of time to chat and no need to rush as everyone just had to line up to get fuel at the only place in town.

There is also the Jayco crew, who were in Mt Isa last night, with us and we stopped along the road with today. They are also hoping to catch us in Katherine or Broome. One of them is also a Harley Rider, so he and the MOTH have lots to discuss.

The outback wave is alive and well and even the Police seem friendly.

We have had a fabulous night at the Barkly Homestead. Although the generators are acutally quite loud. So not sure how much sleep with be had.

There has been happy hour, live music. The usual pub fair to choose from on the Menu.

The Smokers area Barkly Homestead.

The Moth and I are working on this Blog in the Laundry in the Ablutions Block, we are so lucking to be placed just outside this room tonight witch is so close to the generators, I may have to wear my hearing protection to bed.

That is really all for today. We head for Daly Waters Pub tomorrow night. Its a big riding day. Do not be alarmed if there is a few days break before another episode drops. It seems the days are very short at the moment.

If you do have a question, a piece of advice or a comment we have an email attached to the Blog.

thelapof60and70@gmail.com

We will attempt to answer you with in an appropriate time frame, or maybe just when we get home.

If we don’t know the answer we will make something up, between the four of us that sounds pretty legitimate.

As you ride out to find the way, the way will appear”

Until Next time….

MOTH and LOL
