Mt Isa - Over 2000km is the Bank

Dearest Intrepid Readers,

Here we are in the Isa, another great day in the West.

We all really enjoyed the ride through the Selwyn Ranges from the Curry to the Isa. There is beauty that is hard to define.

The Lovliness has taken over the towing of the Krakatinnie today, and she did a mighty fine job.

Our other exciting new is, we overtook a Roadtrain with four trailers.

Yes, the road train may only have been going 20kms/hour uphill and we may have been in an overtaking lane, but we are claiming the victory. The advisory signs have been telling us the road trains will be getting longer. The first one said 50 metres, the next one said 53metres and just as we were coming into the Isa the sign said they could be 80metres long.

Julia Creek was our first stop today, and we had been told the best cafe in the world was in Julia Creek. We found this to be true.

Corrina’s Cafe and Bakery has lots of small details that make it an extra special experience. Delicious fruit flavored water in delicate punch cups from a rustic sideboard. Exquisite cuisine presented with care an attention.

We also came across this beautiful community project of a Mosaic Chair that a large multi generational group had completed.

We, had planned to visit Mary Kathleen, as I had lived there as a child. It was during the second operation of the Uranium mine. However the road was not trike friendly so we had to make do with a photo of the sign.

Tonight we have joined the Local Contractors at the Lake Moondarra Caravan Park, in a huge mess hall. It was a great feed for a great price. We really enjoyed seeing hardworking young people enjoying there food and collecting their crib for tomorrow.

John and the Moth also ate like they had done 12 hours of hard yakka as well.

We looked up the house we owned when we lived in the Isa from 1990 to 1996 and it was for sale. It was great to see the huge verandah that Andrew built over 30 years ago is still being enjoyed today.
