Border Village-11 213kms in the Bank SA

Dearest Intrepid Reader,

We had a great sleep in the little camper, despite the hum of the large Balladonia Road house generator and the road trains occasionally roaring by.

We packed up with a beautiful sunrise in a clear crisp morning, the dew was quite heavy. The camp ground was full.

No sooner had we left than we came upon one of the RFDS Emergency runways on the Highway. We would see four of them during our 480kms today.

The MOTH and the Harley, Join him and the Trophy, lined up on the runway for some low flying.

Me, Running on the Eyre Highway hoping for lift off !! It did not occur!

We are so glad to finally be riding this piece of road, and doing it together on our own rides, is the bomb.

Those kilometres went by so fast, the weather was perfect and yes it’s very very straight. 90 mile straight on the Map below.

After the straight we fuelled up at Caiguna Road house ( the hub of the Universe) the sign, says so.

Just after Caiguna Roadhouse, Jenny joined the 10000km club! She recorded the moment at 9999.9, and then was able to reset the trip metre to keep all her other statistics recording !

John, of course, is also over the 10000kms now. After 100hours of riding the Trophy did not keep recording and John did not notice, so his statistics are not accurate!

Again, we are all learning about our rides.

Madura Roadhouse.

I was expecting the Madura Roadhouse, however I was overwhelmed, and then was absolutely shocked to be heading down a mountain pass as we came up to enter the Madura Roadhouse.

Yes, the roadhouse is at the base of the Hampton Tablelands. I was not expecting to see mountains out here and yet here they were.

As we rode along the escarpment, there was a couple of times I thought it was going to end, but then we would round a bend and it kept going, shepherding, us ever just so gently closer to the coast.

The table land escarpment is a feature for nearly 200kms and we crossed it again on the Eucla Pass. As I looked to the side and then in the rear vision mirror as we climbed up the pass, I was able to see the sea ( the Great Australian Bight) for the first time on the Nullarbor.

The MOTH, had advised me just moments earlier that the sea was only a couple of kilometres over as he could see it on his very advanced Harley inbuilt GPS, so I knew to be on the lookout.

Nullarbor Links, “Worlds Longest Golf Course” is unique. This 18-hole par 72 golf course spans 1365 kms with one hole in each participating town or roadhouse along the Eyre Highway from Ceduna in South Australia to Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.

We came accross players at the Brumbys Run Hole at Madura Roadhouse today. They had purchased their score cards and greens fee for $80.00 at the Ceduna Visitor Centre.

Eucla Time

This time zone situation has been very confusing and caused much debate and laughter at dinner tonight as we tried to work out how to set and alarm for the morning. We were on Eucla time, our watches and phones were on Western Australia time and we would arrive at tomorrow’s destination on South Australian time.

Why is there Eucla time.

It has been another wonderful day on the Nullarbor.

We have been in Western Australia for 25 days, we entered on the 15th of August at 1152 and rode out today at 15.32hrs, god only knows, in what time zone, some 6800kms, later.

The state takes up half of Australia, so it correlates it has taken up half of our ride. Thanks for a beautiful ride, W.A. We will return.

Community of the Road

We all had dinner with a lovely couple from Perth who were on their way home from a trip around Queensland. We traded stories on our thoughts of WA and they shared theirs on QLD.

We are staying in the roadhouse motel tonight, room 27.

When you ride out to find the way, the way will appear!

Until next time, or is that Eucla Time!!!

MOTH and LOL
