Hervey Bay 4 Days until we leave.
These photos are from our Easter planning Weekend in March this year. We all did thorough planning and research and combined our knowledge and experience to come up with our itinerary. I complied ours on Wikicamps and Jenny prepared a spreadsheet. We built in the rest days, maintenance bookings and also some flexibility.
We are at packing stations, and it varies day to day how prepared I feel. It is alot of work and preparation, to not take very much.
One must have a minimalist mind set and yet have all the necessities you may need, when a couple of chronic diseases are travelling with you.
Yes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Diabetes and Osteoarthritis are joining this journey, they have been embraced and their needs catered to, however they will not hold us back or define the trip. It does mean that we will be travelling with an all Australian made, Brass Monkey Fridge, in our Camper, so we can maintain the cold chain for daily and weekly injections to keep the worst of the symptoms at bay. Our fridge is tiny of course, at only 15 litres. It is suitable for 12 volt or 240 volt and also has its own little lithium battery which lasts about 8 hours. Other features include digital temperature controls, a reliable compressor and low energy consumption. The best bit is we can monitor the temperature remotely via an App on our phones to ensure the medications are kept at the right temperature. We have an Esky mounted on the draw bar of the camper however the variable temperatures of Esky’s, meant we required the Brass Monkey also.
Our Camper is also little and very Australian. We have a Krakatinnie Camper trailer. There was only about 50 ever made. For this trip we are only taking the one room as we will be setting up so frequently only for one night. The bed when folded out is double bed width and Queen bed length. There is Led lights both inside and out. The trailer has 8inch wheels and we are carrying two spares. The TARE weight is about 150kgs and there is a battery box that we will top up at our powered sites.
We have been advised, flyveils may be required on the trip. I mentioned this to my dear Mum when we called into say Farewell to them down in Brisbane, this weekend. Mum was able to jump up and put her hand on two straight away from the bottom drawer in her dresser. They were from when Mum and Dad had travelled around Australia in their Motorhome many years ago now. I am pleased to now be able to use them again on our trip. Mum is in her 9th decade, and they have moved house since they sold their motorhome, however she still manages a pristine household and can produce anything requested in the blink on an eye.
Better get back to packing, or maybe unpacking as I may have packed to much.
