Port Augusta
Dearest Intrepid Reader,
Community of the Road
We had only just rode out of the bottle shop this morning, so we could load in all our gear, when along came Joe.
Joe, was looking very dapper and was just in awe of the Lovliness. He wanted to know all about her. I told him of course and asked if he wanted his photo with her.
“No” he said. He wanted a photo of me sitting on her to show Yvonne.
Yvonne, is his wife of over 60 years and she is 94 years old and is now in care. He showed me, Yvonne’s, photo and told me of their many travels over the years. He visits her twice every day. He wanted to show her the photo of the trike. He told me of his motorbike he had long ago. He was waiting for his car to be repaired to day and he was going for a walk when he came accross us. He said it made his day.
It made my day too, to think of him sharing the story and photo with his dear, Yvonne.
Joe, gave us something to. He said not to leave until we had seen the Fig trees planted in 1857, so we headed down the esplanade and found them. They are listed with the National Trust, as trees of Significance. I did not even know trees could be listed with the National Trust!
We then headed down to Tumby Bay for a coffee. And a look at some silo art.
Silo Art Cowell
There was more artwork in the Toilets at Cowell.
The ride between Cowell and Whyalla was very slow, we even stopped completely a couple of times with traffic lights at the road works. It did not matter we did not have to rush and there is plenty to look at. Like this guy on his Triglide Harley. We always park up close at the road works and have a face to face catchup !
I would say the Eyre Peninsula is the jewel in the crown of South Australia with her emerald green rolling pastoral land meeting the sapphire blue bays in many places.
The country side started to change again around Whyalla where we stopped for a late lunch. Whyalla Esplanade below.
As we headed towards Port Augusta we could see the Flinders Ranges which start 200kms north of Adelaide. The ranges stretch for over 430kms.
Tonight we are in the Poinsettia Motel, we ate in tonight, hoping to get an early start as we navigate through Adelaide tomorrow.
As you ride out to find the way, the way will appear.
Until next time
MOTH and LOL
