Streaky Bay SA- 11 795kms

Dearest Intrepid Reader,

The sun arose late today at 0732hrs.

Is that late?

It’s really hard to know, when time zones have been varied and prolific.

Anyway, just as well it was late. Despite our cabin we had the worst sleep of the Lap. The cabin neighbours seemed to be letting their children redecorate the cabin until way after midnight.

The sun, when it did rise unveiled a Nullarbor fog. We left after a coffee, and only 30kms down the road the fog lifted, interestingly, it sat just above us for while.

Old Nullarbor Roadhouse dating back to 1956, when the then Station Manager decided to start selling fuel to motorists passing on the then gravel road. It was then a Station for grazing stock, such as horses sheep and cattle.

It was cold, so the heated vest, gloves and thermals were donned. They worked, I was pretty warm all day !

Our first stop was Nundroo Roadhouse about 150km down the road. The countryside had already started to change, with trees starting to appear where there once was none and a few wheat paddocks along the side of the road.

We called in to look at the Town of Windmills, Penong.

About 10 years ago, a group of locals realised the introduction of solar was hastening the loss of windmills.

An intrinsic Australian icon, that had long pumped water to where it was needed. They decided to save them and the identity of their town. The display is free and funded by donations and fundraising.

This swing, was a bit of fun, it was actually a wind mill pump and the swing created the up and down function to pump up the water.

Ceduna officially the end of the Nullarbor, was another fuel stop, for Rubilicious and the Harley. As we entered the town we went through another Quarantine checkpoint. On entry to South Australia at the border, not much checking occurred. So after the Nullarbor a more thorough check happens. The town is a fishing port and railway hub.

Streaky Bay, our home for the night.

The 431kms slipped by easy today, as we hugged the coast after, Ceduna, and had the most beautiful views of Smokey bay and other beaches along the way. We are enjoying this ride.

In 1802 Mathew Flinders discovered the bay and called it Streaky Bay because of the streaks in the water created the reflection of light and seaweed.

It is a beautiful little town and has many historic buildings and there is a self guided walk.

We are in the most beautiful motel tonight, Streaky Bay Motel and Villas. It has everything, even a heated indoor spa.

The washing is done and the Nullarbor washed off the trikes, well the Lovliness, at least. The dust is gone but the memories of the last three days will stay with us. The Nullarbor is a great ride.

As you ride out to find the way, the way will appear!

Until next time!

MOTH and LOL
